# What is Gia?

The state final certification is the main mandatory exam that students take at the end of the 9th grade. This exam is an indicator of knowledge that the student has received for 9 years of schooling. The format of the GIA is similar to the Unified State Exam - a single state exam, which is passed in the 11th grade.

In this article we will look at what the GIA is, what subjects are included in the final certification, and also talk about a single point system.

## What is a GIA

GIA appeared in 2004. Then certification was experimental. Only a few cities participated in the exam. Later GIA became a compulsory exam throughout the country. This certification was implemented in order to objectively assess the knowledge of 9th grade students. Previously, students could take exams in their schools, which gave them the opportunity to get higher scores, because teachers were often not impartial.

GIA is conducted on the same principles as the exam. Students come to another school and take an exam in the form of a test. The result of the exam are the points that are put on the student's certificate. Points are taken into account when accepting a graduate in institutions of secondary vocational education.

Although the GIA has its drawbacks, it still remains a fairly effective indicator of a student’s knowledge. It eliminates the possibility of bribing teachers, guarantees their impartiality to students. That is, the state final certification is not only evaluative, but also anti-corruption.

However, now GIA has one major drawback. Namely - the possibility of hacking the database of answers and leak them into the network. In 2013, Rosobrnadzor recorded numerous leakages of responses from the database. The organization is currently working on these errors.

## Format

At the moment, the state final certification contains two mandatory disciplines - the Russian language and mathematics. The student must also choose two exams from the subjects he studied (11 disciplines). Each discipline has its own point system. For example, in Russian, the maximum number of points that a student can score is 42 points.

- Physics - 40 points.
- Geography - 32 points.
- English and other foreign languages - 70 points.
- Mathematics - 38 points.

Now on a specific example, we consider what a separate exam includes.Take mathematics as an example. The math exam is divided into 3 modules, namely algebra, geometry and real math.

The overall score obtained from the results of the exam, the certificate is not exposed. The certificate is given the grade that was obtained for algebra and geometry. Real mathematics is included in these two sections.

Also, the math exam includes two parts. The first part provides simple examples as well as tasks. In the second part are complex tasks that require a complete solution.

## Criticism

According to the marks of many critics, the GIA contains in the tests too complex tasks and questions. However, as explained in Min.Education, these questions are needed for those who want to score high points. For example, if a student wants to go to college at a university whose curriculum is focused on specific subjects, then a high score on them would be a plus for him. The points that the student will receive will, as a result, go to his passport and allow him to expect to enter the college in the future without passing the entrance exams. In the future, the student can count on admission to the university at college, even with lower scores, obtained from the results of the USE, than is required for admission (bonus system of universities).
