How To Get Rid Of Headache Or Migraine In 2 Minutes Or Less
What Helps You Get Through a Migraine?
How Medication Can Help You Manage Migraines
Most migraines go away within 72 hours — but three days is a long time for someone to deal with symptoms like head pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light, saysNauman Tariq, MBBS, a neurologist and the director of the Headache Center at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
At the first sign of migraine symptoms, you might want to take an over-the-counter medication like aspirin or naproxen, says Dr. Tariq. He also suggests having some caffeine — a strategy that sometimes helps LeeAnn Medina, a My Take Migraine contributor, manage her symptoms. However, by taking too much over-the-counter meds — for example, using them for three days a week or more repeatedly over time — you may end up with kidney, stomach, or liver damage, he explains.
“If people have more than eight headache days a month, they should be on another, daily medication to decrease headache frequency,” Tariq says.
