• Blueberry garden - planting and care at their summer cottage

    Location and site preparation

Blueberry is a light-loving plant, but it can successfully bear fruit with a little shading. It is desirable that the groundwater is located no higher than 30 cm from the surface and not lower than 75-90 cm. River sand is added to the heavy soil, this culture also develops well on pure high-moor peat.
If such a site is difficult to pick up, the plant can be planted in a concrete well, barrel or other vessel not less than 60 cm deep and 0.8-1 m wide. Several holes are made in the bottom with a diameter of about 5 cm, after which the vessel is buried in the soil to the edges and filled with a mixture of garden soil and peat. Garden blueberries can be grown in pits, the edges and bottom of which are lined with roofing material or plastic wrap. They are filled with the same nutrient earthen mixture.

    Planting and care

Garden blueberries are propagated by vegetatively green or woody cuttings. In the first case, rooting is carried out in conditions of artificial fog, in the second - in the ground at a temperature of + 20-25 ° C, regularly sprinkling it with water.
For blueberry undesirable prolonged drought or waterlogging. Its root system is fibrous, so the earth is periodically loosened to a shallow depth, after which peat, old sawdust or a vegetable humus layer of about 10 cm are sprinkled. When blueberries bloom, it should be watered only at the root.
Copies that have reached the age of 4-5 years should be cut off periodically. Every spring, dried, broken or diseased branches that do not grow and do not bear fruit are removed. In the first years after planting the bush, it is recommended to remove the flowers so that the shoots grow faster.

    Feedings

Garden blueberries are fed 2 times per season, fertilizers are applied carefully and only under adult bushes. The first feeding is carried out before flowering, the second - during the formation of fruits. To do this, dilute 10 liters of water with 1 tablespoon of liquid sodium humate and potassium humate, as well as fertilizer containing trace elements. Each plant consumes 10-15 liters of solution.
Productivity can be increased by periodic supplements with mineral complexes with nitrogen, phosphorus, ammonium sulfate and potassium. Annual soil coverage with peat or sawdust also contributes to its growth. Manure and preparations containing chlorine or lime are not suitable for blueberries.
