• Available and beautiful flowers salpiglossis

If you want to decorate your garden with bright flowers, then try to grow salpiglossis. It is easy if you know and follow some rules. Find them out and start growing.

    Plant description

Sulpiglossis belongs to the Paslyonov family, and its homeland is South America. The plant has thin, erect and sometimes branched stems covered with villi, creating a feeling of some stickiness.

Small green leaves can have straight, pinnate and jagged edges. The flowers are funnel-shaped and are collected in lush beautiful inflorescences. They can be painted in a variety of shades: from white and pale yellow to bright pink and purple. Petals often have fancy motley patterns for which gardeners so appreciate salpiglossis.

There are about twenty perennial and annual plant species, but in middle latitudes, selectional ornamental varieties are common, which are divided into low-growing, high and medium.

    We select the appropriate soil

To salpiglossis felt comfortable and pleased with abundant flowering, you should prepare a suitable primer. It should be loose, light, nutritious and enriched with humus. A full drainage is required, and the optimal reaction is neutral or weakly acidic. Clay soil does not fit, moisture will stagnate in it, and roots will rot.

You can independently prepare a substrate from a part of sand, two parts of sod land and half of an ash. To normalize the acidity level, peat can be added, but only 100 grams per kilogram of soil, this will be enough.

Advice: the prepared soil mixture should be disinfected by holding it in a water bath or calcining in the oven.

Choosing a place in the garden

For planting salpiglossis, you need to choose a place that is protected from ultraviolet radiation, since direct sunlight has a detrimental effect on flowers and dried foliage. The site should be shaded: for example, it can be near a sprawling tree or near a tall bush.

The stems of the plants are rather thin and fragile, as are the flowers, so salpiglossis is contraindicated for strong gusts of wind and drafts.Protect the shoots from such effects to preserve their beauty. A young flowers better to provide support in the form of wooden pegs.

    How to grow?

Planting a plant directly into the soil at a permanent place is possible only in regions with a mild and warm climate, since seeds will not be able to ascend after frosts and temperature drops. If the climate is temperate, then it is better to grow a salpiglossis flower in the usual seedling manner.

Plant cultivation should begin at the end of March or at the beginning of April in order to plant it in the garden by May. The soil should be placed in small containers or boxes, loosen and level. Spread the seeds on the surface of the soil and slightly deepen. Next, moisten the substrate with a spray bottle, and cover the container with a film to create a mini-greenhouse.

Containers should be placed in a moderately illuminated and warm enough place. The optimum temperature is about 20 degrees. And do not let the sunbeams hit the greenhouse. Lift the film regularly to remove condensation and air the soil. It is also necessary to moisten the soil as needed.

After two or three weeks, the first shoots will appear from the seeds, and this means that it is time to remove the film. And when each shoot gets two or three strong leaves, you will need a pick, that is, seating in separate tanks. Moving shoots should be extremely cautious, since they have tender roots.

So that long stems are not damaged, provide them with support. As you grow, you should pinch the upper branches two or three times, otherwise the plant will be excessively high and will lose its decorative effect. Also, for tempering and preparing for disembarking to a permanent place, the temperature should be gradually reduced, especially at night.

Cultivation in open ground is possible with the onset of constant heat. So if the temperature does not fall below ten degrees, then gently turn the shoots into the garden. For two weeks, loosen the soil and add ash. Also loosening is necessary immediately before disembarkation. Sprouts are placed at a distance of 25-30 cm from each other.

    How to care?

Care for salpiglossis involves several conditions:

    1. Watering should be regular and moderate, so do not wait for the drying of the soil in the heat, but do not over-moisten it. Also, bushes can be sprinkled daily in the summer. After moistening, it is advisable to loosen the soil in order to ensure water penetration to the roots and prevent its stagnation.
    2. If you regularly pinch the upper central shoots, you can form a lush beautiful bushes and stimulate flowering.
    3. You should feed salpiglosses growing in the garden twice a month, using mineral fertilizers. And it is especially important to fertilize the soil during the period of active flowering, which occurs at the end of June and July.
    4. Young and weak shoots need support, so the stems should be carefully tied to wooden pegs to protect against strong gusts of wind and drafts.
    5. Regular weeding is required, as abundantly growing weeds close salpiglossises, prevent them from developing normally and significantly reduce the nutritional value of the soil.

    What problems can you encounter?

When watering the soil and stagnant moisture can be faced with the decay of the root system and the subsequent death of plants. In bright sunshine, yellowing and drying are possible. Also, salpiglossis is threatened with fungal diseases, gray mold, powdery mildew, and fusarium. Pests such as aphids, thrips, spider mites are likely to attack. To avoid problems, watch the soil moisture, regularly assess the condition of the plant and carry out preventive treatments with fungicides.

Plant bright salpiglossis in the garden and enjoy these flowers!
